Amazon €10 billion European fulfillment investment: robotics expansion, faster delivery, electric fleet, and workforce training announced June 2026.

Amazon used its Delivering the Future event in London on June 4, 2026 to announce a broad push across its European operations. The headline number is more than €10 billion to expand and modernize fulfillment centers across the region, with 25,000 new jobs to follow over the coming years.

New Robotics

Three robots feature in the announcement. The next-generation Proteus can move freely across entire fulfillment sites and take direction from employees through plain-text prompts, no technical commands needed. Deployment in Europe is scheduled for the first half of 2027. Vulcan, a picking robot that can sense pressure and texture when handling items, is expanding to more European sites. STARK, first tested in Barcelona, handles totes alongside employees and is set to reach 15 European sites by 2027.

Faster Delivery

On delivery, Amazon Now, already live in parts of London with 30-minute delivery on groceries and essentials, will expand to Manchester and Birmingham this year. A Sub Same-Day Delivery network is coming to more than 25 European locations in 2026. The setup lets customers order as late as 5 p.m. and receive items by 10 p.m. Coventry and Nürnberg are among the named cities. The Add to Delivery feature, which lets Prime members drop items into an existing order without going through checkout, will launch later this year in the UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, and France.

In parts of Central and East London, customers can now add fresh groceries to the same basket as other items for same-day delivery. UK Prime members pay nothing extra on orders over £20, including perishables.

Electric Fleet and Sustainability

Amazon has hit 50,000 electric delivery vans globally, halfway to its 100,000-by-2030 target. The fleet mixes custom Rivian vans with Mercedes-Benz vehicles. In Europe, Amazon and its delivery partners crossed 100 million deliveries by electric cargo bike, electric moped, and on foot in 2025, cutting more than 17,000 metric tons of carbon emissions in the process.

Workforce and Investment

The company also committed $1 billion to its Career Choice training program through 2030, targeting logistics, software development, cybersecurity, mechatronics, and renewable energy roles. More than 300,000 employees have gone through the program globally, 30,000 of them in the UK. For context: Amazon put more than €60 billion into Europe in 2025 alone, its largest annual regional investment on record. The company says it supports 1.5 million jobs across the region today, including 230,000 direct employees and over 600,000 created by the roughly 200,000 European businesses selling on its platform.
